HEMP MARKET.

JULY GRADING RETURNS

The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow, and stripper slips for the month of July have been issued by the Department of Agriculture as follows: —

Four bales at Auckland, 0 at Wellington, 44 at Foxton, and one at the Bluff were rejected. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:— Good fair 167 (335), high fair 910 (1074), low fair 585 (1606), common 165 (542), rejected 55 (138), condemned nil (30), a total of 1882 bales as against 3725 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 1843 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 495, Wellington 458, Foxton 428, Picton 77, Blenheim 5, Pt. Chalmers 129, Bluff 290. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded: —

Five bales at Auckland, 6 at Foxton, 6 at Pt. Chalmers and one at the Bluff were condemned.

The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis: — Ist grade 63 (194), 2nd grade 237 (673), 3rd grade 18 (60), a total of 443 bales as against 1194 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 751 bales.

The number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 144, Wellington 80, Foxton 72, Picton 24, Pt. Chalmers 22, Bluff 101. Stripper slips:—Five bales at the Bluff were graded 2nd grade. . Two bales were condemned and 33 bales were passed for export. The total number graded was 40 bales as against 139 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 99 bales.
