COMPENSATION FOR WIDOW.

WELLINGTON CITY COUNCIL TO PAY £650. Wellington, Yesterday. In the Supreme Court on Tuesday the case in which Eliza Gray Needham, a widow claimed £ fit 00 damages from the Wellington CityCorpora lion, in respect of the death of her husband, Thomas George Needham, a carrier, was concluded. The claim arose out of a fatal collision which occurred ai the junction of Malcolm Lnno and Tinakori Road on the morning of February 2nd, when Needham’s horse express and a frameur collided. The plaintiff alleged negligence on the port of the Corporation but this was denied. The ease was heard before Mr. Justice Sim and jury.

The jury returned at 3 o’clock Did awarded £650 damages, inclining £SOO to Mrs. Needham and £IOO o Needham’s mother.
