HIGHWAYS BOARD CRITICISED.
Pahiatua, August 8. Arising out of a communication that the Main Highways Board was not prepared to subsidise river protection work above the town traffic bridge, the Mayor said he disapproved of the Board altogether. If ever the Council had a request to make, it had to go to the Board cap in hand as it were. It seemed to him to be a “one man show.” The Board got its taxes out of the people and yet cavilled at everything lhe Council asked for. Councillors indulged in- severe criticism of a letter from the district engineer,-Mr. Ronaync, on the matter.
