A mouth organ band is to lie formed in Levin.
The Chertsey Rural Council Housing Committee have decided to seek the opinion of two competent housewives on the arrangement ot rooms in council houses about to be built.
The humming of telegraph wires is not caused bv the wind, for it is heard during dead calms. It is possible that changes of temperature, which tighten or loosen the wires, produces the sound. An amusing story of a minister’s disillusionment comes from Ohai, says the “Southland Times.” On Saturday shortly after the start of the pictures, the power plant broke down,* and it was announced to the disappointed audience! that the remainder of the programme would be screened on the following night, Sunday. The visiting minister, being unaware of this arrangement, held a service in the ball on the Sunday evening, and was pleasantly surprised at the size of the congregation, which increased every few moments. The climax was reached when, in the middle of his eloquence, voice from the back sang out, Cut it short, mister, we are waiting to see the rest of the pictures.
