Mr W. Neville, borough water works foreman, is at present confined to his home with pleurisy. The death took place at Feilding on Saturday, of Mr Alfred Percy Francis, a well-known farmer of Hunterville, aged 50 years. Mr G. Mounsey was removed to the Palmerston N. Hospital on Saturday night, where it was found necessary to perform an operation. He is making satisfactory progress.

The following local Girl Guides were successful in gaining their second class certificates on Saturday: —T. Hussey, H. Spring, B. Crowe, M. Yorke, M. McMurray, M. Tyer, and H. Owen. Mr T. B. Strong, Chief Inspector of Schools has been appointed Assistant Director of Education. He will succeed Dr. Marsdcn, who has been appointed to the permanent secretaryship of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.

Those present at last night’s Borough Council meeting were His Worship the Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) and Councillors McMurray, F. Woods, C. Rand, Lucinsky, Thompson, Parkin, Walker. An apology for absence was received from Cr. Winstanlev.

Mr F. Lucinsky, who was recently elected unopposed to a seat on the Foxton Borough Council, was welcomed to his first meeting last night. The Mayor (Mr M. E. Perreau) congratulated Mr Lucinsky on his public spiritedness in standing for the Council and also congratulated the ratepayers of Foxton in having on the Council such a man as Mr Lucinsky. He also look the opportunity to express his appreciation of Mr P. Easton’s attitude in connection with the eleclion. lie had been pressed to stand as up to the last day there had been iio nomination for the position, but when Mr Lueinsky's nomination came in lie withdrew, thus avoiding an election and consequently saving the borough an expenditure of over £25. Mr Lucinsky thanked the Mayor for his-remarks and said that he had a lot to learn in regard to municipal affairs, but he would do his best for the ratepayers and the borough as a whole.
