RET All v CASH 2/3, BOOKED 2/5. SUBSIDY FROM CONSOLIDATED FUND. The Butler Committee made (lie followin'? recommendations to the Iljmso on Wednesday:—■ (1) That in view of the .fael that no rest riel ion lias been placed on (he prices of wool and other products of Ihe Dominion, it is of opinion that the dairy farmers are entitled to the full Dene lit of the market price of hut ter, and recommends that a sullieienl quantity of butler (to he taken from the whole Dominion) should be requisitioned for the requirements of the population at two shillings and six pence pei 1 pound f.0.b., this being the amount of the Imperial Government's offer. (2) Having carefully considered I lie price to be (-barged to the consumer, recommends that the retail price be fixed to the Hist March, 1021, at 2/3 (two shillings and three pence) per pound for cash, and 2/5 (two shillings and Jive pence) booked. Note. —The estimated cost of fixing’ the price on this basis will be £OOO.OOO. (3) That it does not recommend an export lax on butler. (4) And having considered I he. question of the introduction of margarine, resolved to make no recommendation thereon. There are still 10,000 boxes of old butter in store in Wellington which will be sold at 1/0 per lb.
