TRAGEDY NEAR TUAKAU.

Auckland, Yesterday

Sidney Claymore Eyre, settler, of PukekaAva, about seven miles from Tuakau, was murdered hi his bed last ni&ht, evidently by a shot lived through an open window. Mr Eyre, avlio avus a married man Avith five children, retired Avith his Avife to Hie bedroom at 9 p.m. They occupied separate beds in Hie same room, and Mr Eyre slept near Hie open window. About midnight liis Avife found her husband dead, with (lie top of his bead blown off. She sent the eldest boys to Hie post office, Avjienee word readied the Pukekolie police, who left for Hie scene of the tragedy at 4 a.m. Mr Eyre was two years on active service in the late war. He was a sheep farmer by occupation, and a man of kindly disposition.
