MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
TRAMWAY REPORT. The following report was read at the last meeting of the Mauawatu County Council; — The chief items of fra the were: Merchandise, 186 i tons; minerals, 75 tons; manure, 64-I Ions; cheese, 158| tons; timber, 18,400 feet; metal, 285 cubic yards. Fares amounted to £-2 19s Bcl.
The accounts show a debit balance of £174- 5s 9d for the month’s workings, but included m expenditure are amounts-totalling £195 for firebox in boiler of locomotive Manawatu and extra rail fastenings.
The reassembling of the locomotive Manawatu bits not yet been completed. Tile ashpan of the engine'has disappeared. Messrs Ross and Signal, of Foxton, state that they forwarded it to Wellington, with the boiler, and .Messrs Cable ami Co. state they have no knowledge of the matter. I have been given to understand that a new one is being made, and Messrs Ross and Signal have assured me that the engine will be ready for work as soon as this comes to hand.
