TOWN CLERK’S SALARY.
The Finance 'Committee recommended at last night's Council meeting that the Town Clerk’s salary he , increased to £3OO per annum, this sum to include any oflice assistance required, and also payment of a substitute during the., Clerk's holidays. The Mayor said that at the last meeting of the Council it was decided that Mr Trueman should be given a trial of a month on his own to see if he could carry..out (he ollice work without assistance. During that time he had conducted the ollice very efficiently,' and the books had been kept aight up to dale. The Mayor said he sincerely appreciated the Town-Clerk and his work. When he came to Fusion he had very Jitllc knowledge of municipal work, but with his energy and enthusiasm had carried, out all the work most successfully. It was his own suggestion that he take all (he work on and be responsible for payment for any assistance that he may require, and the Mayor considered this was a most excellent idea. Cr. Thompson considered it was a very good proposition, and had his hearty support. The recommendation was unanimously adopted.
