A SERIOUS CHARGE.
BAIL REFUSED,
A middle-aged man named Charles Cockery, a stableman by occupation, was charged before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., at yesterday’s sitting of (he Palmerston Magistrate’s Court with .having, on or about 13lh day of October, 1010, attempted to procure certain persons, to wit, Henry .Joseph Lewis and Alfred Mervyn Capj), to murder another person, to, wit, Thomas Quirke. Detective-Sergeant Quirke appeitred for the police, and applied for a remand until Tuesday, 28th October, which was granted. Mr A. M. Ongley, who appeared for the accused, applied for bail, which was refused.
