As the outcome of the raid by the police on the “two-up school” at Castleclift last Sunday the marine suburb has been bereft —temporarily, possibly —of one of its most thriving local industries, and the former locale of the kip enthusiast is now a Mecca for local tourists, says the Chronicle. Tiie “Sunday school” which welcomed all creeds flourished' within 150 yards of the CastlceliJf public school, in a depression near the top: of a sandhill. A belt of pine trees with overhanging branches gave a sense'of security to the players, at least up to Sunday last, when the police raid came oft'. Clay was used for the floor pf the playing ring, which was duly swept clean on every occasion before the game of “heading ’em” started. Overhead the pine branches were lopped off to make room for the upflung coins, and the marks on the-trees indicate that the trimming took place several years ago.

The police dug-out is the principal attraction for visitors, and although ten yards off the ring, it was completely hidden in a cluster of marram grass.

The work of excavating the dug-out .was laborious, and the police had to work at night on throe successive occasions before it was completely ready for occupation. Apart from tire work of digging, all the sand bad to be carried away end disposed of. Yesterday the police distributed about forty invitations on blue paper, entitling the recipients to be the guests of the Crown at a gathering to be bold adjacent to Moutoa Gardens next Monday, at 10 a.m.
