THE LATE FATHER DORE.

- ■ - - •- ANNIVERSARY REQUIEM MASS

The anniversary Requiem Mass for the late Father Dore, parish priChurch, Foxton, yesterday. AmChureh, Foxton yesterday. Amongst the clergy present were Fathers McManus, Palmerston North, Bergin, Feilding, Bowe, Dannevirke, Doolaghty, Opunake, V. Kelly, New Plymouth, Cushman, Marton, Hegarty, Patea, Harnett, Palmerston North, Kennedy, Palmerston North, and Forrestal, Foxton. Father Doolaghty was celebrant of the Mass, Father Bowe deacon, Father Hegarty sub-deacon, and Father Harnett master of ceremonies. Father McManus preached the occasional sermon. In the course of his remarks, he particularly dwelt on Father Dore’s unselfish devotion to duty, not only in the parishes where he had worked, but particularly amongst the boys on Gallipoli. It was in the exercise of that duty that he received the wound that finally led to his death. He also spoke of (he unfailing patience with which he suffered the keenest agony oftentimes to his death without; a trace of impatience, and never a word of complaint. He said he did not need to speak to the people of Foxton of the kind of priest he was, how devoted to duty, and in fact the people of New Zealand needed no panegyric of Father Dore; his name was a household word amongst the friends of the hoys who so bravely fought on Gallipoli, and for whose sake he gave his young like. There were a great number of friends from the parish present at the Mass, and also from the surrounding district and Palmerston N. and Tokomarn. MEMORIAL STONE. The friends of (lie late Father Dore, who so generously contributed to the memorial church in his honour, will be glad to learn (bat the monument over bis grave in the Foxton cemetery was completed on the anniversary of bis death. 'Hie committee feci it their duty to those who subscribed to let them know that at the last moment, owing to nnforseen circumstances, they were reluctantly compelled to draw on the church fund for the erection of the monument.

The monument is a plain Celtic Cross of Coromandel polished granite. standing 8 feet on three pedestals of the same material. It bears no record of how the brave young priest gave his life to save others on the shell-swept slopes of Gallipoli, only the simple inscription: “Of Your Charity Pray for the repose of the Soul of the Revd. Patrick Dore, P.P., Paxton, who died July 15th, 1018, aged 33 years. ‘On whose soul Sweet Jesus have MertV R.1.P.” Thus would the Soggorth-Aroon wish to be remembered, so also -his friends would have it; his dear old father in distant Ireland, his cloistered sister in her Convent home on the banks of the Slaney, “neath the shadow of Vinegar Hill,” his saintly mother, with whom we trust he now enjoys the Beatific Vision. There was no empty vanity of an unveiling ceremony which so rejoices the fickle hearts of worldlings, only the silent, fervent prayers of (hose who do not forget.
