ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

A married man named Walter Hurnby, a resident of Avondale, drank lysol ou Saturday, and is now in the hospital in a precarious condition.

At ii o’clock ou Saturday night a half-caste Islander was found lying at the edge of Queen Street wharf, unconscious, and dressed only in a pair of bathing trunks, a slouch hat, and light shoes. All the police could get from him were unintelligible multeriugs. There is nothing to indicate that he was a victim of foul play. One surmise is that the man swam ashore from a vessel in the stream.

Christchurch, Feb. 12.

A man named Royal Cherry, 40 years old, met with a strange death last night. He was staying at the Masonic Hotel, and contracted a severe attack of influenza. Daring the night he got out of bed, and it is thought began to walk about the bedroom. He then evidently opened the window and fell out on to a recess which stands in front ol the window and about six leet below it. The licensee and the attendants in the hotel heard him calling out, and ran to his assistance and lifted him into the hotel again. It was seen that he was in a serious condition, and steps were taken to help him to recover, but he died halt an hour later. It js believed he was a native of Hobart, and that a sister lives in Adelaide, The body was examined by a doctor, who could find no signs of a broken neck. An inquest will be held to-night. Oamaru, February 12. A man named Henry Whitehouse, aged twenty-eight years, committed suicide by cutting his throat in a room in a boardinghouse which he rented. His father is said to be a merchant at Wrexham, North Wales.
