Weights for F'oxton are to appear about the 14th inst. Liouheart, once owned by Earnie Stevenson, is the latest addition to Alf. Wright’s team. It may be that the brilliant Bobrikoff will not face the starter in the Wellington Cup. Anyhow, he has quite enough to carry in 9.12. Advocate, who ran second in the Auckland Cup, must be a hard nut to crack in the big event at Wellington on the 22nd. Sir Antrim’s Christmas winning form has caught the eye of the sporting public to such an extent that he has been installed an early favorite for the Wellington Cup. “ Mert ” Gardiner, trainer of Koran, Crucinella, Ambergris, and Co., joined the ranks of the benedicts during the week. Good luck to him, anyway, and congratulations. Marton is included ju the nominations for the Foxton Cup, aud the fact that the son of Malachi beat Koran over a mile at Awapuui would suggest him as a likely wiuuer of the prize. Many improvements to the local track have been effected since the last meeting, and everything should be in apple-pie order when the 1910 gathering rolls round on the 22nd and 24th. I hear good reports of Astrea’s racing condition, aud the wonder : is that this mare has not been entered tor the Foxton meeting. However, she is in at Pahiatua next week, and is worth consideration. Waitapu is in the Foxton Cup, and Waipaku in at Wellington on the same day. The latter is not a very good doer away from home, which fact must prejudice her chance of success iu the ‘ ‘ thousand pounder.” On the strength of Sir Antrim’s

three successive victories, Equitas would not need to be very “strong” at Awapuni first day to mEs beating Sir Antrim, and it is doubtful whether she would ever defeat the Soult pony at the weights they met on that day over a mile course. Fiffort is so well just now that nothing may be put past her. The chestnut daughter of Advance —■ Endeavour has beeu engaged in the Pahiatua Cup next Wednesday, aud that the handicapper does not assess her chances as light, is conclusively proved by the fact that she has been asked to carry the steadier of 8.12. Nominations for the Foxton meeting, which closed on Thursday, are well up to the average, and include Sir Prize (who ran third in the New Zealand. Cup), Meudip, Sir Antrim, Lord Soult, and other first class performers. The hack classes have filled well, and the different events are sure to provide interesting .contests between Gladiole, Blend aud those of their calibre. There are those Who will say that because Koran won the Rangitikei Cup, Crucinella (a stable mate) was not a “tryer.” Bunkum! Crucinella was supported by the right people, but was not good enough to concede a stone and eleven. psia-td* io Koran over a mile and a quarter course. Crucinella is brilliant over a short course, and it may be good business to support the bright bay mare in the six furlong event at Trentham iu preference to the Wellington Cup
