BOWLING CLUB.

AN ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING. 'GREEN TO BE PUT DOWN. The meeting convened by the Mayor and held last night for the purpose of forming a bowling club for Foxton was well attended and the question taken up with enthusiasm. In his opening remarks, the Mayor referred to the fact that there were few places, if any, the size and importance of Foxton in the Dominion which did not possess a bowling green and much smaller towns possessed flourishing clubs. There was no reason why Foxton should be behind in this respect He referred to the benefits, social and otherwise, such recreation afforded. He had been in communication with Mr Clitnie, civil engineer, on the subject and that gentleman had kindly consented to render valuable assistance to the movement. The club would not be called upon to pay for the land which could be held under mortgage. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Witchell and Hennessy, that a club be formed to be called the Foxton Bowling and Croquet Club, which was carried unanimously. A lengthy discussion then ensued in reference to finance. ' It was finally decided to issue debentures up to and as soon as ,£l5O had been subscribed a start be made to lay down the green. Debentures to the value of ,£9O were taken up by those present. The following committee was appointed to deal with the financial arrangements ; —The Mayor aud Messrs Dr. Mandl, Hennessy, Hornblow, Fraser, Witchell, and Rlmmer. It was decided to fix the annual subscription lee at two guineas, and an entrance fee of half a guinea to others than debenture holders ; a reduction to be made to debenture holders of ,£lO and upwards. It was decided to hold a meeting to report progress on Thursday, 19th iust. A meeting of the finance committee was held subsequently, and a list of likely citizens who would take up debentures submitted.
