FOXTON ATHLETIC CLUB.

A meeting of the committee of the Foxton Athletic Club was held in Mr. PerreauV rooms, on Tuesday evening. Present; —Messrs. Perreau (chair). Woods, Page, Gillies, Gordon, Rough, Robinson, Cook, Hynes, Baker, Dr. Adams, and Secretary. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Correspondence from the Foxton Borough Council advising that the buildings in Victoria Park would be painted as requested, and from the county clerk, Sanson, notifying that a guarantee of £$ would be required to run a special train from Pukenui on sports day, was read. Messrs. Perreau and Robinson were appointed to collect the trophies and to arrange to have them exhibited iu one of the shopwindows. Messrs. Johansen and Walsh were re appointed gatekeepers. It was decided to guarantee the sum asked by the County Council for a special train on November 9th.

Messrs Jones, Martin, and Sylva were appointed judges for the flaxspreading competition. The guessing competition was left in the hands of Mr Healey to arrange.

It was decided to ask for offers from the local caterers for the right to run the refreshment booth on the Sports ground. The Secretary reported that Mr Lovejoy, Secretary of the District Centre of the N.Z. League of Wheelmen, had received a notification from that body, asking him to suggest a club that would be prepared to run the New Zealand Cycling Championships, and requesting whether he should suggest the Foxton Club. All members present were of the opinion that it would be a “good thing ” for their club if the championships were decided on the local track, and the Secretary was instructed to write and ask the District Secretary to suggest this club, and also to obtain full particulars in regard to same.

The Secretary was also instructed to write to the local Friendly Societies, asking them to take part in a procession through Main Street on the night of the Sports. Other minor matters were discussed, and the meeting terminated, after having passed a vote of thanks to the chair.
