THE PORTUGUESE TRAGEDY.

Senhor Amaral, the Portuguese Premier, interviewed, said the Portuguese were devotedly attached to the monarchy, and even if a revolution had been possible Saturday’s crime would prevent a realisation. One of the three men killed as of the King of Portugal, was innocent. London, February 5. The Spectator says Senhor Franco has definitely retired from politics. In the' House of Commons, Sir Henry Campbell - Bannerman moved an address expressing horror and indignation at the mad, revolting crime in Lisbon, and sympathy with the suffering family and people. He eulogised the manly, friendly, kindly King and his son, full of youthful hope and promise, and referred •to the calm - courage of the noble woman who had tried to protect them. The Rt. Hon. A. Akers-Douglas seconded the motion, which was carried without debate.
