ASSASSINATION.

King and Crown Prliice of Portugal. Scene of the Tragedy. Queen’s Heroic Conduct. London, February 2. Portuguese advices state that King Carlos and the Crown Prince of Portugal have been assassinated. Three of the murderers were killed on the spot. The tragedy happened last evening, while the Royal Family were out driving iu the city. ; King Carlos and his Consort, Queen Amelie, who lately returned from a visit to England, with the ' Crown Prince and the Infante , Manuel (second son of King Carlos), aged 18, were driving in an open carriage at 5 o’clock, and when leaving the Praco do Commercio, a group, of men opened; fire on the Royal party with carbines. ’

The King and Crown Prince were mortally wounded, and Manuel received a slight wound. Queen Amelie had a miraculous escape. She rose to shield the Crown Prince, but was not hit.

The police at once opened fire on the regicides. The King and Crown Prince were removed to the Naval Arsenal, where it was found that each had been struck by three bullets. Father and son died shortly afterwards, within a few minutes' of one another.
