ANGLICAN SYNOD.

Auckland, Yesterday.. The Anglican Synod, on a motion for the second reading, rejected a Bill by which the appoint- . ment of committees would be made . not merely by the majority vote of each order, but by the majority which each section would get representation. The chief objection urged was that this would lead to wire-pulling and to the formation of parties. The Synod was asked by Mr ) R. Hunt to express -an opinion on the subject of cremation of the human body.. He said some people in Auckland regarded it as the healthiest practice. The . subject was shelved without discussion on the motion to proceed with the next business.

The Synod received a deputation representing the Temperance Committee of the Presbyterian General Assembly. The Rev. A. Miller stated that the ' Presbyterian Church, as a result of careful investigation; had come to the conclusion that the Best policy was to advocate no-license. Bishop Neligan, replying, said the Synod had no doubt profited greatly by what had been said. They were very much interested in the drink prolem, and though they differed in the methods they were united in the aim.
