The Premier's Return.

PREPARATIONS FOR WELCOME.

A deputation, consisting of Messrs T. K. Macdonald, E. J. Hill, iSimpnon, J. A. Plimmer, T. Dwan, R. Bannister, C. Izard, W. Turnbull, Wylie, Baker, MoParland, Godber, C. Luke, 0. Hill and Drs Collins and Martin, waited on the Mayor on Thursday afternoon to ask him to call a meeting to make arrangements for welcoming the Premier at his home-coming. Mr Macdonald referred to the fact that Mr Seddon bad been vigorous and energetic in his representation of the colony on an historic occasion, •n$ said it was only right that he should receive a warm welcome on big. return. Be assured Mr Aitken that it would not be in any sense a political function. The Mayor said if it had been intended to promote a political function he would have taken no part in it, but as he had the assurance of the deputation that it was intended to do honour to. one who bad done service to the colony, as Mr Seddon bad dene, he would have much pleasure in complying with the request It was decided to convene a public meeting of citizens, to be held on Monday afternoon, at 4 o’clock, and that those present form part of a committee to be then formed.—N.Z. dimes.
