METHUEN AGAIN IN ACTION.
Lord Methuen, while marching on Zeerust, surprised Commandant Limner, and captured 225 waggons and twelve prisoners. General De la Rey's commando hovered on his flank, but avoided fighting. MR KRUGER. Mr Kruger intends to seek intervention in favour of autonomy for the Boer Republics under British snpremacy. The journal " Debats " deprecates a public demonstration in honopr of Mr Kruger, and con&lders"*it impossible for him to obtain aid in London*. • Mr Kruger gave the Portuguese authorities at Delagoa Bay his word of honour to proceed direct to Holland calling only at Marseilles.
SKIRMISHING IN THE SOUTH. A Boer attack on Fauresmith, in the south of Orange Colony, has been repulsed. Major-General Knox successfully engaged the Boers at Kroonstad, on the railway line to Pretoria, about 120 miles north of Bloemfontein. . MISCELLANEOUS. Major-General Lyttelton is confining at Heidelberg, thirty miles south-east of Johannesburg, farmers and families found harbouring Boers. The Cape Government has decided to permanently set apart a day of rejoicing over the conclusion of peace. The Premier on Tuesday received the following cable message from the premier of Tasmania, dated Hobart, 23rd inst : — Invalided Troopers reau,. W. H. Crapau, D. J. .Ryan land Sergeant N. Newcombe lett 6n'Sun3ay by the Tokomaru.
