A Visit to the Beach.

By the courtesy of Captain Glover, of the Flower o( Kent, we had the pleasure of making a trip to the beach, in company with the Mayorelect and one or two others. The object of tha trip was the meeting of the committee appointed last Monday to inspect tha site of the proposed jetty, and Messrs Chapman and Jonson met the steamer party at the fishermen's quarters. The trip was most delightful the steamer running down with the tide in 3d minutes without any oscillation. Not only was the prcposed site examined but Captain Glover travelled further down to see a site suggested by Mo Wilson. The result of the visit will be reported by Mr Chapman to the meeting nrxt Monday, but we may say we believe the idea of a jetty will be abandoned as being both too costly and too exposed. In place thereof a landing stage will be suggested .in the shape of a punt worked from a pile driven to a point any steamer ould lay against, and by a pile on shore, connected with a wire rope. Co keep passengers dry, it may be proposed to place for half the distance on the beach a raised foot- way >f planks. The distance from highwater mark to where a steamer could lay, was measured and found to 288 feet. This new suggestion appears a most simple plan and not costly, and will probably be the one decided on.
