John Holmes A Cos. Market Report.

Wellington, Oct..«7th, 1898. Wool.— Latest London advices do not indicate much change since our last report, but the present threatening outlook of the political atmosphere between France and England will no doubt have a somewhat depressing effect should it continue. Sheepskins.— The market remains firm at late rates, with good inquiry. We quote prime full-woofled with well saved pelts up to 5 Jd ; medium, 4d to 4£d ; inferior, a£d to 3sd. Potatoes. — Have firmed still more, and to-day are quoted at £9, and the new seasons at from £10 to £iz per ton. The latter are now coming in more freely and prices may be expected to recede shortly. Oats. — The market is somewhat easier owing to heavy stocks having been held over, whilst the prospects of the new season's crop are most favourable. We quote, c.i.f. Wellington prime heavy feed, as 3sd to 2s 4_d ; good feed, 2s id to 2s 3d. Discoloured oats are not now in such good demand. New Zealand Hemp. — Latest Home advices indicate £25 on the spot for medium quality, an advance of nearly £z having taken place compared with values at the end of last month. a___M___Maa«______B___t
