LARGE ORDER FOR THE NAVY.
The English Government has invited tenders for the building on the Clyde of four battleships, a first-class cruiser and 12 torpedo-boat destroyers at a cost of five million sterling. The Right Hon Cecil Rhodes, addressing a meeting at Cape to Wn, Btated that in 1894, with tht authority of Lord Rosebery, who was then Prime Minister, he warned Baron de Courcel that Great Britain would fight to prevent the cutting of the British connection between North and South Africa.
