The attention of the Members and the General Public is called to some of the special features connected with the Society, which is the oldest Colonial Institution of its kind, having Ik en established in the year 1840. Seventh— The deaths among lives assured wero G49 under 785 p^licio?, causing claims upon tho Society amounting to £299,602. irrespective of Bonus additions, while the number exj ected according to the. Tables ÜB''d in estimating the liabilities would havo been 1143, for nn amount of £438,976, the mortality experience being thus extremely favourable. Eighth — The receipts from interest and rents were £516,832, an amount exceeding the. sum paid for thec'airrs by £188$$,. Ninth — The expenses of management were only 9.5 per cent, of the total receipts. Tenth — The cash surplus divided for the year 1889 was £426,494, being at the rate of 41. 5 percent, on the premiums received.
