• South Canterbury Freezing Company in the last year froze 152,560 sheep and 36,064 lambs, the average weight being 58.05 lbs and 85.0 lba respectively. After %llowing f £2418 :- for depreciation the net profit for the year is £8008, and "a dividend of 8 per cent has been passed, and a sub* stantial sum was carried forward. In the Standard Magazine an article is devoted to an interview with Cardinal Manning, and this is one of the confessions extorted from the worthy prelate : — As a boy at Croombe Bank, Christopher Wordsworth, late Bishop of Lincoln, and Charles Wordsworth, Bishop of St. Andrews, were my playfellows. I frankly admit that I was very mischevious. The two Wordsworths and I conceived the wicked intention of robbing a vinery. The door was always kept locked, and there was nothing for it but to enter by the roof. There was a dinner party that day, and there were no grapes. This is probably the only case on record where three future bishops were guilty ot larceny. Were we punished ? No, we were discreet. We gave ourselves up, and were forgiven. The editor of the Berlin comic paper Kladderadatsch is being prosecuted by the Government for publishing a cartoon entitled *■' Gull Snaring," the aim of which is to throw ridicule on the Holy Coat of Treves.
