Buda-Pesth.
The Capital of Hungary, BudaPesth was the scene, the other day of an inundation, the full effects of which we are not informed. The town is situated on the river Danube in almost the centre of the country, and below the river very large reclamations, nigh on 750,000 acres, in a swamp, had been made, costing a sum close on twenty million pounds. This land had been farmed, and it is reported that on the 16th of this month it was inundated and the crops destroyed. We have a good deal of faith yet left in the cablegrams received from Europe, but considering the extremely severe winter that has been experienced, it is hard to understand what crops were likely to have been in this month ! The towns of Buda and Pesth are divided by the river Danube, and are connected by a bridge ol boats. Buda is the ancient town of Acincum and was held by the Romans in the fourth century. The present city was founded in 1240 and became the capital in 1279. It has experienced much excitement as Soliman II captured it in 1526 and 1529, the Turks sacked it in 1541 and it was considered the key to the Ottoman em* pive until the Austrians secured it in IGB6. The Austrian army took Buda from the Hungarians in 1849.
