A NEW PUNT.
4 It has for some months I een the earnest wish of the Mayor and Councillors to- provide ways and means to secure a now punt for the Wirokino ferry. It. was difficult to know how to anticipate the ferry revenup, which though good, was not of a character to satisfy the money lenders of tho age, who require ahout three times the value of their advances to he deposited with them before parting with .the cash. The local finance acts gave no assistance. Fortunately for the Borough, an amended bill extending the powers of iiovernment advancing was before tho house and Mr Wilson secured the in ertion of the clause enabling money to be borrowed for the finding of a punt, and ho now informs us that this has passed the thii'd reading in the Legislative Council. Oil'- councillors will smile, and justly, as a good punt and the daily coach to Kereru, and the early delivery of th ■• mails by the coach, which we believe is also nearly secured, . will all tend to place the business people of the town in still better position t > attend to the very largely increased trade.
