PEILDING.

. ♦■ (from our own correspondent.) 24th April. The Feilding Choral Society gave a very successful conceit last nighfc in the Town Hall. Besides the members of the Society, numbering about thirty, there were several wellknown singers from Wellington and Wauganui on the stage. Both the vocal and instrumental music was much appreciated, but the audience seemed to be specially pleased with the singing of .Miss Randall, of Wellington, who is now on a visit in Feilding. I only need mention that Mr Dowling wielded the baton ns a guaranree »haf the conducting was all that could be desired. While on the snhject of amuse ments, I may mention that the Dra-

niatic Club hope to give a grand performance next month. The peicea they propose performing being " our bitterest foe," the farce of " Diamond cut diamond," and the famous play of " Robert Macaire." With this programme they ought to have a full house. The public library was opened last week with a very good assortment of books. Feilding ought now to obtain a proper reading room, as the one in the Immigration Barracks at present being used is scarcely suitable for that purpose. Affairs in the building trades are getting more brisk. There are throe stores being erected in Manchester Street alone, two by Messrs Price Brothers, which are approaching completion, and the third by Mr J. B. Roots. This latter, judging by the drawings, which are being prepared* by Mr P. de J. Clere, architect, will bo one of the largest buildings in the district. It is to be a corner structure of two stories, with a frontage to Manchester Street of 85 feet, and one to Grey Street of 62 feet.
