AUGUST STATISTICS.

In most parts of the province last month was wetter, than August, 1919, and where observers had .taken note. •■ . of the fact, it was found that the rainfall for the whole of last year was le&s than the fall .during the eight months of this year. These figures , hold promise of .a plenteous haa-vesfc during the coming season*—other conditions being .favorable—so long a» the, plethora of moisture does not continue over, the time in hay-n-.akihg and general summer harvesting. ';.'■'■ '■■ .•■ At the Delta Station the amount of rainfall for -the past eight months totalled 30 inches 29 points, which is ' in excess of the full fall last year by 8.85 inches. r Last month's rain amounted to 4.76 inches, distributed ; over 9 days, as follows: On the 2nd 1C points fell: on the 3rd 148 points; sth, 78; 7th. 85; Bth, 7V 12th,-16; 26th, 107; 27th, 22; 29tli, 3/ The Waa-d rainfall was considerably less than the Delta record, as ittotalled; only 3.69 inches, on the 11 days, the heaviest fall taking place on Bth, when one inch of rain,was gauged. Hartley Hills (Hillersden) experienced rain during the month to the extent of 5.11 inches. In August, 1919, the fall in this locality was 3.44 inches.

Mr H. J. Staoe repoi-ts that the total rainfall in Pieton during tho month of August was 5.97 inches. •am fell on sixteen days, the heaviest fall being 1.52 inches on the 2nd. The total for the eight months of the present year is 42.04 inches.'

At Hapuku (Kaikoura) tho fall was 22 points less than that in Picton. Last lnonth at this station 5.75 inches of rain fell on 15 days, the heaviest fall being recorded as 2.41 inches on the Bth. In August of last year the fall totalled 6.65 inches.
