■* CHTtISTCHURCH, Aug. 10. Blenheim people will be amused to< learn that the Canterbury Progress League had a grievance last night. The City, Coun-jiil reduced by half its annual.subscription to the League and .to-night's Star comments: "Tin? City Council has decided to show itsgratitude to the Progress League for its work in the interest of Cinrist--church and Canterbury during the past year by reducing its subscription from £300 to £.150. That is the Council's idea of rewarding sorvice. Itargues apparently that if the Progress League did .so much for £300 if; will probably <lo twice as much for £150. The League has eminently justified its existwico, and has putsome 'ginger into City and provincial enterprises and movements. It deserved to be helped iri a generoufespiritj but the Council acted like a skinflint. ; It raises the rates by over £16.500 and saves £150 on- the Progress League. This sort of 'saving' i<* uot economy. It can only bo described, by usin.s very hard words." .
