THE OPENING SESSION

(Received Aug. 7, 9 a.m.) OTTAWA, Aug. G. The Imperial Press Conference ■opened yesterday. Speches were delivered by the Governor-General, the Prime Minister (Mr Meighen), and Mr McKenzie King (Leader of the Opposition) welcoming the delegates. All dwelt on the paramount importance the Conference bore towards Empire development, Imperial unity, and the creation of a better understanding between Grcot Britain and the Dominions.

The day's discussion was devoted to urging upon the respective Governments the imperative need for better facilities for cable, wireless, and other communications.

The delegates were entertained at dinner by the Government.
