TO PREVENT A CABLE-LAYING
[Press Association.] . Aug. and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received Aug. 6, 9.20 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 5. President Wilson ordered five destroyers to patrol the Florida coast to prevent, by force if necessary, the landing (of the Western Union Telegraph Company's cable from Barbadoes to Florida. The State Department delayed action, by the President's permission, pending the result of the International Communications Congress. The captain of the cable ship was ordered by the British Ambassador to await instructions.
