ALL BLACKS V. NEW SOUTH WALES.
(Received Aug. 4, 10 p.m.) SYDNEY, Aug. 4. New Zealand against a New South Wales second team was at the best an uninspiring content-. The local men registered two tries by Friend and Quinlivan. The latter's was converted by Mingay. This was before the visitors scored. The Blacks eventually broke the New .South Wales offensive, and initiated a succession of passing movements among the threequarters, Wilson, Hassell, and Baird crossing in quick succession. Th© last named converted Hassell's try. Now Zealand 11, N«^South Wales 8.- ■
After the interval Neivsr South' Wales opened play, throwing the ball about freely and several times almost getting in. O'Brien was twice "obliged to force. Storey commandert respect throughout the game. Several opponents were generally ready to smother his efforts to break through. At length, securing ihe> ball from the loose near the halfway; Storey punted down the field. He. regained the ball, dodged two opponents,' and ran strongly, scoring a fine try. Hassell converted. The play afterwards was inclined towards raggedness, particularly in defence. Badeley scored.from half-Avay, mainly through a misunderstanding, both teams standing in anticipation of the^ whistle. Carroll then scored twice in succession, Hassell converting. Right on time the local men crossed twice, Mingay converting. The final scores were: New Zealand 31^ New South Wales 18.
