PROPOSAL TO FORM PARTY

A proposal that steps be taken to form a. Farmers' Political Party was brought before the annual Dominion Conference lor the New Zealand Farmers' Union by notice of motion given last year by Mr R. D. Duxiield (Horotui) as follows:—"That with a view towards securing to the producers of this Dominion a sound progressive policy, the time has arrived when the constitution of the Farmers' Union should be altered to allow the formation of a Farmers' Political Party, and that Rule 23 be amended to allow of this being effected." The matter also stood upon the order paper in a remit from Auckland suggesting that steps be taken to form a Farmers' Political Party. The proposal gave rise- to a lengthy and detailed debate which was conducted in committee.

Upon the resumption of open conference the -president (Sir James Wilson) announced that it had been decided to refeovthe matter to the provincial executives for consideration at next year's provincial conferences.
