An increased public interest marks the- approaching inauguration of "Waterlea. Fortnight.'' Various features of the money-raising campaign are advertised from day to day and they are warmly commended to public attention.

The opening effort will be made by the- ladies' "committee in Market Squa-re on Saturday next. Williams and Mosley's shop has been lent by Hallenstein Bros for the purposes of a sale of work and produce, and the ladies of Grove Rqskl. Islington, Lower Wairau. South Side, axid Weld Street have formed a strong committee to cany the project through successfully. "The Scarlet Runners' Minstrel Troupe" will make their Waterlea bow at His Majesty's Theatre on Wednesday next in association with the Returned Soldiers' Orchestra and a picture programme. These minstrels have been strengthened by the inclusion of Miss Bertha Manson, who has had' a long vaudeville experience on Fullers' circuit in Australia, and her performances are bound to be of a popular nature. Dancers are quietly preparing for the "Waterlea Ball," which will be held in St. Patrick's Hall on Friday o f next week under the auspices of the Returned Soldiers' Association.
