THE SHAMROCK'S MISHAP

(Received July 19, 0.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 18. The fecond race for tho America Cup will be held over a thirty mile triangular course. This is expected to bring out thel best sailing qualities of both craft.

Captain Burton, speaking of his rival, said: "I have seen enough of ihe Resolute to know that she is hot stuff."

The time handicap stands. The Shamrock's Nicolson's Jacket to prevent back windage from the mainmast was not used, the committee threatening a remeasurement. Owing to the light easterly airs ibe start has been postponed. It became known, after many contradictory reports had been'circulated, that the Shamrock also suffered a, mishap during the first race, v-hich, in the opinion of Skipper Burton, might .have resulted in- the Shamrock's withdrawal had she been compelled to crowd on eYtra sail in order to finish the race. . The bowsprit iron had moved inward, and the vessel was in danger of disablement. The- bowsprit has been repaired.

The Resolute has been supplied with an aluminium gaff to take the place of the wooden" one, and botli vessels are ready for the next race. The officially corrected time , allowance to, the Resolute is npw -announced'as 6. minutes 40 .seconds.
