ATTEMPT TO HOLD UP TRAIN.

(Received July 17, 0.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 16. Three men waving a red flag .attempted to hold up the express -train at Adavoyle Crossing, bet\yeen Dublin and Belfast. The driver, suspecting an attack, continued at full speed and dashed through the gates, which were smashed to matchwood. The train was undamaged. It was subsequently discovered that over 100 raiders were waiting in the vicinity.
Masked and armed men ambushed a. police patrol at Lonesborough, near .Longford. They shot, a constable dead. His companion lay behind the ■corpse firing until his ammunition ■was exhausted, when he was compelled to surrender.
