Mr C. O. Pratt, who was in the local Magistrate's Court office prior t(> going abroad on active service, has ■been, appointed clerk of the Court at Marton rand Bulls and registrar of electors for tho Rangitikei electorate.

Mr W. J. Girling, president of the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce, is leaving for Wellington this evening to attend the conference of Pro-£rc-ss Leagues to-morrow and the deputation to Ministers on Monday. Dr E. Boxer having resigned from the position of president of the Hastings Returned Soldiers' Association, Lieut.-Cblonel J.. H. Jardine has been elected to fill the vacancy, and Mr G. M. -Spence, foi-merly of Blenheim, has been appointed vice-presi-dent.

A Waimate Press Association telegram states that" Mr Alexander Craighoiad, owner and licensee of the Royal Hotel, died last evening, aged ""65 years, after a tbre© years' illness. He was a. na;tivo of Glasgow and arrived in Timam 47 years agot, after three years at sea. He had tho hotel at Rakaia before coming to Waimiate 14 years ago.
