'The second of the. Football Club's jissemblies- was held in the Town Hall en Friday night last, there '..-being a good number present. The floor was m excellent order and the music was of the best, and a vei-y enjoyable evening was spent, i The last round for the Stapp Cup was played at Carluke on Saturday between Haveloek and Carluke and resulted in a win for Haveloek by S points-to 6. The game was evenly contested and it was the best display of football that the teams ha.ye given this year. Carluke managed, to'cross he'line twice and scored t\vo tries, "hile Haveloek. gained . their points >y two drop kicks, one by HeaJey and he other by Buckman, both of .which ere good kicks. The result of ■-aturday's game makes the teams yen, eacl) 'having two wins aiida haw to their credit. The final wi.ll c played in Hnvelock on Saturday ex-t when a good hard struggle beween the two teams is anticipated. Ihe ladies' hpekey club which has :tely been revived, is making good >rogreuß, and ha,s now a large number if 'members. Arrangements are beng made for a match bet-ween the "radies' team and a gentlemen's team o be played on June 3rd, -fhe conrlitions being that the men must play in skirts and use oiily one hand. The annual meeting of the Sounds Mid Djatrict Farmers' Union was held 'in ! JTaveloek on Sctturd«y last, when a good deal of business was- transacted." After, tho meeting the annual dinner was held at the Post Office Hotel, and a very enjoyable evening una spent by the- large number present, and great credit is due to Mr L. Smith for the manner in which ihe Catering arrangements were carried out. ' Two first offenders we're charged with the theft of timber from the Havelook wharf a few days ago and. were each convicted and fined £5. Messrs W. H. Smith and E. H. Smith were on the bench.
