DEATH FROM BURNS.

WAIROA, June 2. The police received information on Tuesday if a distressing occurrence at. a Maori scrub-cutter camp at V rainui, which resulted in the death from, shock, following severe burns, of a girl named Tawai Wi Bone, aged 16. It appears tliat the family retired to- rest on Sunday, leaving a fire burning, a common practice with the natives when the night is .very, cold. About 1 a.m. the father was suddenly roused, finding the tent m flames. The occupants had great difficulty in escaping with their lives, all being more or less severely burned, especially the girl, who was burned' about the body and face. She was attended to by Dr Somervi.Ue and Nurse Naera that day, but died on Monday. The father, mother, and two children were brought to Wairoa Hospital for treatment..-' . .
