Great damage was done to property/but lio lives were lost. Pedestrians in the Manchester dis- „ iftrict saved themselves on the high .roads only by swimming with tlie ■ifiood Waters.
- There is terrible desolation in ;Xtoiith. Tons of debris are lying everywhere, amidst black/ mud, including motor-cars, pianos, and bedding. ° ' , Several children "were trapped on ■the ground floor of a house.. The another vainly tried to save them by piling "up the furniture and putting on top. #
\ In another case a mother made her <ihildren" climb up a high, drosser, and Hang on to "hooks in the ceiling when the dresser collapsed. Three children Jet go the hooks and were drowned. The mother and one child were saved.
