STATEMENT.

AUCKLAND, June 1. An important statement was made by the Hon. Mr Coates, PostmasterGeneral, when replying to a deputation whigh asked for improved postal facilities at Epsom. The Minister, said that he was not prepared to recommend the Government to go in. for a .progressive scheme of constructing post offices and public buildings, for administra^ tive purposes at the present time. The,- housing accommodation ;was very short, prices were tremendously high, and there was, : insufficient skilled labor. - available.
