MAGISTRATE'S COURT
BY-LAW AND OTHER CASES.
Mr P. L. Hollings, S.M., preside* at tlie sitting.* of the Magistrate's Court in Blenheim to-day.
For procuring liquor during thocurrency of a prohibition order William Byford was fined .£1 with 7« costs, in default seven days' imprisonment.
A number of cases were brought by Mr C. Patehett, the by-laws ranger. Robt. H. Jackson was charged vith having ridden a bicycle on thet footpath in High Street, and Herbert Downes with having pllowed a» horse to stray in South Street. A fine of 10s with 7s costs was imposed in each case.
The charge against James Wilson, was: That on the 4th aiid sth of May, at Blenheim, ho did act as th» driver of a motor car for tho carriage of passengers' from Market Place to* the racecourse at Waterlea, not being a licensed driver, as required by Blenheim by-law No. 225. The defendant did not appear. A fine of ~>a with ,7s costs was imposed. A further charge—That James Wilson, Le-ing the owner of a motor car did use it for the purpose mentioned, the car not being a licensed vehicle for the carriage of passengers—was similarly dealt with.
"The secretary of the Wairau Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was the complainant in a case in which the father of three children from 8 \to 11 years of ap;e, was.charged'with that he had failed, and intended to failj to provide for thf-.ir adequate maintenance. The case was adjourned.
