TRAFFICKING.
PRACTICE TO.BE STOPPED
At a meeting ox the Canterbury Land Board an important discussion took place in respect of transfers of Crown leases carrying a largo goodwill when the transferer has only held the lease for a comparatively short period. Instances were referred to in which lessees, who had only held their leases for less than one year, had applied for transfers. In one ense an increased goodwill of over £3000 was shown. The applicant had got a transfer from the previous lessee lat year, the goodwill paid being £3200.. He was now asking £6700 as goodwill. The Board decided/that it was contrary to the policy of the Crown to allow trafficking in such leases, and in future the Board will not consider applications for transfer unless the applicant, has hold the lease for at least two years, excont very special circumstances can bo shown.
