Linzmeyer, an officer in the Baltic lion Division, on arriving at Essen peoui-ed copies of telegrams : which ha.d been despatched to England by Ivlrs Harding, representative of the Daily News, and Mr Voight, .representative of the Manchester Guarduin. Linzmeyer arrested both correspondents.
Voight kept his hands in his pockets when arrested. Linzmeyer ordered two soldiers to beat Voight, in order to teach him how to behave in the presence of a Prussian officer. Both prisoners were subsequently released. They say that Linzmeyer resented the attitude of British and American correspondents regarding ih© Ruhr. Mrs Harding states that she drew attention to the fact that Lmzmeyor's troops were identical with those involved in Kapp's coup, thereby angering Linzmeyer. Tlio correspondent adds that the Baltic troops have- begun a reign of terror, killing workers.
