CHRISTCHURCH, April 9
There has been little activity in grain and produce lines since the holidays. The shortage of trucks and lack of shipping are factors in reducing operations. Oats have firmed during the past few days, and sales have been effected of A grade (Jartons at 5s Id at country stations. There is a good deal of business in small quantities, and shipping facilities only require to improve to stimulate business with the North Island. Merchants there Lave made commitments that will «ion require extensive filling. There fire only a few deals in Algerians to report, 5s 6d at country stations representing the limit of prices. Qiaff is still in request at up to £7 a.t country stations. Cocksfoot and clovers have eased somewhat, and ryegrass also shows an easing tendency. Potatoes haA'e declined in value, and £4. 10s to £4 12s 6d at country stations now represents the' maximum of merchants' offers. However, there is not much activity in the market, merchants showing little disposition to buy except _in small quantities. The general impression is that there will be a plenitude of tubers, but reports from the South suggest that this will not be the case thero. . . The position in regard to onions is unchanged. Merchants are offering £7 la, which is £1 below the Onion Growers' Association's figure, and in the meantime business is restricted to small lines.
