WELLINGTON, April 0. Restrictions on the use of the postal service ', the teligraph service, and the telephone for betting purposes are imposed by regulations issued in the Gazette. Qliey are drastic in their intention. Th"c following telegrams are prohibitive: — (1) Telegrams in plain language relating to betting or to investments on the totalisator, or in coded language reasonably supposed to relate to betting or to investments on the totalisator.

(2) Money-order telegrams addressed to a racing club or to the secretary or other officer, agent, or servant of a racing club relating to investments on tho totalisator.

(3 Any money telegram* addressed to any person who lias been convicted in a court of law under the Gaming Act, 1908, or any amendment thereof,, of any offence relating to betting or investments on the totalisator.

- The officer in charge of the telegraph office where a telegram is presented is authorised to determine whether the message infringes any of these regulations. . 9 It is further provided that no private box at a post office may be held for the purpose of conducting betting business. If any box is known to be xi&ed for such purpose, and if the li alder of the bot is believed to conduct any such biisiness, the bolder may be deprived of the use of the box without notice.

These regulations came into opera<tion as from the date of publication of the Gazette.
