MRS, C. SIMONSEN.,

On Monday, the sth inst , at Oanvastown, an old identity qf the district passed away in the person Of Mrs C. Simonsen. The end. was . j expected, for the deceased passed,, through a lingering and painful. • illness. She reached her,76th birth- : dayJfci the Ist of the present month.: Death took place at the residence of" her daughter, Mrs A. -.Wratt,. at.= - Oanvastown. . Up to the last ' few hours she was able to recognise her; children.

Forty-five years ago, the defused, with her liusband and famiiy > reached: Wellington from Denmark. Almost, immediately the family settled in theSounds. Later they moved to TlieGrove, thence to C'anvastown. There; they have lived almost continuously for the last 38 years. The deceased& husband predeceased her by 12 years.. By the side of her husband, atCanvr.stown, Mrs Simonsen will find: her last resting-place. 'This is ih. accordance with a wish expressed. by •a Maori chief, James Hemi, nowdeceased, too. " ■ ,

Of the deceased's children, eightr are living; the ninth fell a victim 'to influenza last year. Besides these, she leaves 43 grand-children and 22 great-grandchildren. The names of of her t children are:—Mr Thomas Simonscn, Flat Creek; Mr JNeal Simc-asen, Rai Falls; Messrs Victor and Godfrey Simonsen, Meannaee,. Napier; Mrs F. Gartner, Rai Falls; Mrs A. Reader, Hayelock; Mrs A. AVratti, Oanvastotvn. There is onlyone single child,. Mr Leonard Simonsen. Qjvjuri.

The funeral took place on Wednes-*'-day afternoon.
