WELLINGTON, Jp. 27. The Railway Servants' Inquiry Board resumed - its proceedings to-day. .. Mr H. Hampton, representing the second division, criticised the promotion methods', which, he contended, prevented men from specialising in any branch of the service. He asked on hehnlf of the A.S.R.S., that the classification of surface men be altered to make a greater difference between a ganger and the men under him, that gasmen's wages be inincreased by three shillings a day and tradesmen's (fitters excepted) similarly, that a married man's pa.y be equal to the minimum adult wage, that casual laborers be remunerated at thn same rate as on the wharf, and that femnle attendants get . a. minimum of £2 10s rjer week. He nsked that the grading system be dropped, as in England.
